About

The Student Action for a Sustainable Future (SASF) program operates in Saskatoon on Treaty 6 territory, the traditional territory of Cree peoples, and the homeland of the Metis Nation. SASF was developed in 2013 as a way to engage grade 5-8 classrooms from the Saskatoon Public School Division and Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools in action projects. Each year, the students' work measurably reduces greenhouse gas emissions and results in sustainability benefits for the community. Each teacher works with program partners to facilitate student learning and action in one or more program areas. Areas of focus include waste, water, energy, food, biodiversity, and transportation. Twelve classes are accepted each year.

The SASF program is a partnership between the City of Saskatoon, the Saskatchewan Environmental Society (SES), Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools (GSCS), Saskatoon Public Schools (SPS), Saskatoon Light & Power (SL&P), and the University of Saskatchewan's Sustainability Education Research Institute (SERI).
